BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 29. Japanese Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) is interested in strengthening cooperation with Georgia, the company representative told Trend.

However, the rep pointed out that at the current time TEPCO does not have any definitive plans or specific talks on new projects to be implemented in Georgia.

Since TEPCO has taken the decision to implement its first investment project within Georgia’s Dariali Hydropower Plant in 2020, there have been no substantial equipment non-conformance, and the plant's operation has been smooth, the company said.

TEPCO already owns a 31.4 percent share in Dariali HPP. This is only the second investment of the company outside Japan, which shows the interest of the Japanese company in Georgia and the region in general.

TEPCO discussed the potential cooperation with the former Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava later last year. The sides considered the Japanese company's expansion in Georgia's energy sector and possible investment in other energy facilities.
