Georgia's prime minister calls for intensified efforts to join NATO

(www.civil.ge) вЂ" Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli said on February 14 that the government should work very intensively to meet reform targets in frames of Georgia's Intensified Dialogue with NATO in order to soon move to NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP).

The date for next stage of NATO expansion has been announced вЂ" this is 2009. Hence, we should work actively to implement those plans, which we have defined for NATO integration, PM Nogaideli said at the government's session, reports Trend.

NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer said on February 10 that the alliance should come closer to honoring the ambitions of Ukraine and Georgia by 2009.

President Saakashvili described these remarks as an announcement of a date for Georgia's accession to the North Atlantic alliance.
