NATO Deems Inadmissible Implementation Of Kosovo Precedent To Internal Conflict On Territory Of Georgia

( Prime-News ) - The NATO member states have positively appreciated Georgian side's approaches with regard to peaceful resolution of the conflicts.

Prime-News was told at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia that NATO-Georgian meeting in the 26+1 format at the level of NATO's Political Committee that was held at NATO Headquarters on March 21, 2007 focused on resolution of the conflicts on the territory of Georgia.

George Manjgaladze, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Batu Kutelia, Deputy Defense Minister, Ekaterine Zghuladze, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Giorgi Kaladze, Deputy State Minister for Conflict Resolution, and Revaz Beshidze, Head of the Georgian Mission to NATO, Ambassador, represented the Georgian side.

The Alliance's member states appraised positively Georgia's initiatives in this regard, including the memorandum elaborated by the Georgian Authorities for resolution of the conflict in the Tskhinvali Region/South Ossetia.

At the same time the Alliance's member states reaffirmed their steadfast position concerning the necessity of providing support for Georgia's territorial integrity and peaceful resolution of the conflicts. The Allies welcomed Georgia's efforts to achieve a more active involvement of the international community in the conflict resolution process.

The Alliance members condemned the shelling that took place in the Kodori valley, Upper Abkhazia on March 11, 2007 and appraised positively the Georgian side's moderate reaction over this incident.

On March 22, consultations on political issues in the format of Intensified Dialogue will be held at NATO HQ, Brussels.
