The Arab League will hold an emergency meeting Dec. 15 to discuss the situation in the Syrian city of Aleppo, the Turkish media reported Dec. 14.

The Qatar-initiated meeting was also supported by Kuwait, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

Earlier, Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, secretary general of the Arab League, called for a ceasefire in Aleppo.

Large-scale military operations were launched in Aleppo by the Syrian government on November 15 to regain the control over it.

Syria has been suffering from an armed conflict since March 2011, which, according to the UN, has so far claimed over 500,000 lives.

Militants from various armed groups are confronting the Syrian government troops.

The IS, YPG and PYD are the most active terrorist groups in Syria.
