Since early 2019, new Istanbul airport served over 35 million passengers

From January to September 2019, the new airport in Istanbul served over 35,574 million passengers, Trend reports referring to the Turkish Transport and Infrastructure Ministry.

According to the ministry, over 8,716 passengers were served by domestic flights, while over 26,858 passengers were served by international flights.

The ministry noted that during the reported period, 222,435 flights were made at the new airport in Istanbul, 56,324 of which were domestic flights and 166,111 international flights.

Moreover, in the first nine months of 2019, the volume of cargo transportation at the new Istanbul airport amounted to 405,321 tons, of which domestic and international flights accounted for 64,358 and 340,963 tons, respectively.

The opening ceremony of the new airport, which was attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Mehmet Cahit Turhan, took place in Istanbul on October 29, 2018.

The third airport of Istanbul was built in the vicinity of Lake Terkos, located in the northern part of the city.
