The Lebanese Army sought to diffuse tensions Thursday after villagers in southern Lebanon loyal to the Shiite movement, Hezbollah, stoned a UN peacekeeping patrol, dpa reported.
A fight broke out in the southern village of al-Sowani between locals and the United Nations Interim Force in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL) over frequent patrols in the area, the state-run National News Agency reported.
Several youth and women hurled stones at the patrol, shattering the glass of two patrol vehicles and damaging a car. The incident prompted the Lebanese Army to intervene.
