Five people including three Iraqi soldiers were killed and 18 others wounded in a suicide bomb explosion on Friday in Baghdad, local police said.
A suicide bomber attacked an Iraqi army checkpoint in Al-Amria area western Baghdad and caused the casualties, the police source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity, Xinhua reported.
Security forces cordoned off the area while ambulances transferred victims to the hospitals, he added.
Overall violence in Iraq has dropped sharply since the height of sectarian warfare in 2006-2007, but an inconclusive March parliamentary election has fueled a spike in bloodshed. The election is widely expected to shape the political landscape of the war-torn country.
