Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Saudi King Abdullah are expected to visit Beirut together on Friday to hold a summit with the Lebanese president, DPA reported.

"President Assad and King Abdullah are expected to arrive together to attend the summit," a Lebanese presidential palace source said.

The Syrian presidential palace confirmed the visit after Assad and Abdullah met in Damascus on Thursday.

It will be Assad's first visit to Lebanon since premier Rafik Hariri was assassinated in 2005. Hariri's allies at the time accused Damascus of being behind the killing, a charge Syria has denied.

The visit by the Syrian and Saudi leaders is reportedly aimed at easing tensions in Lebanon after news emerged last week that the UN tribunal for Lebanon will likely indict Hezbollah members for Hariri's murder.
