A loud explosion hit central Baghdad Sunday morning, but casualties were not immediately known, Xinhua reported.
The blast occurred only 100 meters away from Xinhua reporters' office at a bus parking lot at the east bank of the Tigris river. At least five to ten buses were destroyed in the explosion.
Huge black smoke can be seen in the sky, cross gunfire can also be heard clearly around the scene.
Violence and some high-profile attacks are still common in Iraqi cities as security deteriorated, causing a setback to the efforts of the Iraqi government to restore normalcy in the country about five months after Iraq held parliamentary elections on March 7.
