Two people were killed and one injured in a bomb blast in southern Baghdad, a security source said on Friday, DPA reported.

The explosive device went off in al-Doura region, damaging a number of nearby stores, the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

In northern Baghdad, police found the body of an employee of Iraq's Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) in al-Hurriya area. Kareem Abdullah's body was found inside the trunk of his car, with signs he had been shot.

In recent months, the number of attacks has risen again in Iraq, as the United States security presence in Iraq declines.

A transitional force of 52,000 troops remain behind for training and advisory purposes, and to carry out some anti-insurgency operations. All US forces are scheduled to be out of Iraq by the end of 2011.
