Egypt uncovers 11 weapons caches in Sinai

Egyptian security officials said Tuesday they uncovered 11 weapons caches in the Sinai Peninsula, mostly in storage facilities near the border with the Gaza Strip, DPA reported.
Explosives, automatic rifles and rocket propelled grenades were said to be in the haul, made during a crackdown in Sinai, which is set to last until the end of this week.
Weapons are believed to be smuggled into the Gaza Strip through underground tunnels linking the blockaded territory to Sinai.
In early August rockets landed in southern cities in Jordan and Israel, killing one person and injuring several others. Egypt has denied the missiles were fired from its territory, but officials in the other two countries have said the rockets came from Sinai.
