Editor's note:  toll updated, Mosul attacks have been added

At least 11 people were killed and 33 injured Tuesday in blasts across Iraq, according to witnesses and security sources, dpa reported.

Eight people were killed, including civilians and security officers, and three injured in consecutive bomb blasts across Salah al-Din province, some 170 kilometres north of the capital Baghdad.

The attacks targeted the homes of three police officers in various cities in the province.

Another blast, which targeted a checkpoint in Salah al-Din's Samarra city, left two dead and two injured.

A militant was killed when an explosive device he was building accidentally detonated in his home in the northern city of Mosul.

Separately, two civilians were injured when unknown gunmen in a car threw a hand grenade at an Iraqi military checkpoint in Mosul.

In the capital, 14 Iranian pilgrims were injured when a bomb that had been attached to their bus exploded close to the National Theatre in central Baghdad.

Two members of the Sahwa, a militia made up of former Sunni insurgents allied with the Iraqi government, were injured when a bomb targeted a checkpoint around 15 kilometres north-west of Baghdad.

The Sahwa, or Awakening Councils, have been facing frequent attacks for their support of the government - with United States military aid - in its fight against al-Qaeda and other Islamist militants.
