Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki continued his regional tour on Wednesday, meeting with Egyptian President Hosny Mubarak in Cairo to try and muster support for his bid for another term in office, DPA reported.

Prior to his visit to Egypt, al-Maliki met with leaders in Syria, Jordan and Iran. He is next scheduled to visit Turkey.

The regional tour comes on the heels of a series of similar international efforts by other Iraqi politicians, including al- Mailiki's rival, former prime minister Iyad Allawi.

Iraqi politicians are trying to win regional support and position themselves to form a new government, following seven months of deadlock since March's elections.

No Iraqi party won an outright majority in that election and attempts to realign parties and form new coalitions have so far failed to produce a government or prime minister.
