The first batch of activists from the Gaza-bound aid convoy Lifeline 5 arrived at Egypt's Mediterranean port of El-Arish on Wednesday, Xinhua reported.
About 155 activists from the convoy have arrived in El-Arish, said coordinator and spokesman of the convoy Zaher Alberawi, adding the main convoy would arrive at the port in a few hours.
The convoy, made up of some 140 vehicles loaded with some 500 tons of medical and food aid supplies, and escorted by some 400 pro-Palestinian activists from 42 countries, intends to deliver basic humanitarian supplies to impoverished people of the blockaded Gaza Strip.
Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hossam Zaki said the goods must be unloaded at El-Arish port where the Egyptian Red Crescent would take over all issues of distribution.
