Syrian President Bashar al-Assad Thursday held talks with visiting Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on bilateral ties and issues of common concern, Xinhua reported.

"We work with Syria to accelerate the fall of the world imperialist order and establish a new free world," Chavez said at a press conference after the meeting, adding he wished one day he could visit the Syrian Golan Heights after its restoration.

The Syrian Golan Heights was captured by Israel following the 1967 Six-Day War and Israel unilaterally annexed it in 1981. Syria and Israel have been technically at war ever since.

Meanwhile, the Venezuelan leader, who on Wednesday kicked off his third official visit to Syria since 2006, expressed supports for and solidarity with the Palestinians and Arab nations.

The Syrian president, for his part, said Chavez's visit strengthened his eagerness to work on the Arab issues.

During the visit, Syrian and Venezuela signed six agreements on economy, commerce and culture in addition to set up a sea route linking the two countries.
