Nineteen people were wounded in bomb attacks in and near Baghdad on Tuesday, meanwhile, the Iraqi security forces captured several leaders of an insurgent group accused of carrying out assassination attacks with silenced weapons, the police said, Xinhua reported.

Seven people were wounded in a roadside bomb explosion in Baghdad's northern district of Adhamiyah, an Interior Ministry source said.

In a separate incident, six people were wounded in a twin roadside bomb explosions in the town of al-Mahmoudiyah, some 30 km south of Baghdad, the source said.

Three more people were wounded in a roadside bomb blast in the town of al-Latifiyah, some 40 km south of Baghdad, the source added.

Mahmoudiyah and Latifiyah are part of the once restive area, dubbed Triangle of Death, which is a cluster of towns scattered north of Hilla city, the capital of Babil province, some 100 km south of Baghdad.

In north of Baghdad, three people were wounded in a bomb explosion in Taji area, 20 km north of the capital, the source said.

Earlier in the day, police reports said that a policeman was killed in a booby-trapped car explosion in the town of al-Sherqat in Salahudin province in north of Baghdad and five people were wounded in two bomb explosions in Baghdad, including a professor of a college at Baghdad University.

In addition, the Iraqi security forces have captured several leaders of a once powerful anti-U.S. Sunni insurgent group, named the Islamic Army, including a leader responsible for assassination attacks with silenced weapons against government employees and security members, a spokesman of Baghdad operations command told reporters.

Acting on intelligence reports, the Iraqi security forces have carried out a series of operations in Baghdad western neighborhoods and several areas stretching to the city of Fallujah, some 50 km west of the capital, since late December 2010, spokesman Major General Qassim Atta said in a news conference.

"The troops found large number of weapons and ammunition caches of the former Iraqi army, which were used by Islamic Army (group), " Atta said, adding that the caches included silencers of weapons.

Violence and sporadic high-profile bomb attacks continue in the Iraqi cities despite the dramatic decrease of violence over the last three years.
