The head of Egyptian intelligence Omar Suleiman was appointed vice president of Egypt, reports the Arabic news channel Al Jazeera.

The head of Egyptian intelligence Omar Suleiman was appointed vice president of Egypt,  Al Jazeera.TV channel reported.

President Hosny Mubarak has not had a deputy since coming to power nearly 30 years ago.

Protests continued on Saturday in all major cities of Egypt, despite the President Hosni Mubarak's statement on government's resignation. In a televised address to the nation on the eve the Egyptian leader said he supported the free will of the people, the right to demonstrate, however, noted that in some cases, "the demonstrators crossed the legal boundaries." Several hundred people came out again on Saturday in central Cairo, demanding the resignation of the president.

The protesters demanded the resignation of President Hosni Mubarak,who is in power since 1981, making government take effective measures to combat corruption and carry out economic reforms.

Egyptian military forces controlling presently law and order in the Egyptian capital, called on citizens on Saturdayto avoid participating in protests and strictly abide by the curfew imposed by the Cairo, Alexandria and Suez.  Any presence on the streets of these cities and any movement are prohibited from 16.00 to 08.00 am local time
