Human rights activists in Cairo were detained Thursday by police, according to sources, DPA reported.
Several people from the Hisham Mubarak Center, a human rights groups, reportedly were taken away by police while the officers hurled insults at the people.
Meanwhile, journalists continued to report attacks, and al-Jazeera television said reporters were being told to leave hotels around the central Tahrir Square.
Media outlets have used the high-rise building to film event in the square.
