The Supreme Council of Egypt's armed forces issued "Communique Number 4" on Saturday, stating that the current government will be caretaker until a new one is formed, Xinhua reported.
A peaceful transition will take place from military regime to a civilian elected government, it said.
"We shall respect all regional, international treaties and agreements," said the army, in response to doubts over the Egyptian-Israel peace treaty signed after 1973 war.
