France denies reports of warplane shot down over Libya
A French military spokesperson denied Thursday reports that a French fighter jet had been shot down over the Libyan city of Sirte.
"No French plane was shot down in Sirte last night," Colonel Thierry Burkhard, French armed forces spokesperson told the German Press Agency dpa.
The Libyan newspaper al-Watan had reported that Libyan forces shot down a French jet which was bombing the city on Wednesday night, and detained its pilot.
Sirte, some 600 kilometres east of the capital Tripoli, is Libyan leader Moamer Gaddafi's hometown.
