Thirteen Palestinian prisoners arrived Tuesday night in the Gaza Strip from Egypt, where they had spent different periods in custody, security sources said, Xinhua reported.

Officials of the deposed Hamas government in Gaza and families of the prisoners received them joyfully at the Rafah border crossing point in south Gaza Strip.

Egypt's ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces decided earlier to release the 13 Palestinians, who were not found guilty by courts but were refused release by the former Egyptian government.

Most of Palestinians held in Egypt were caught after infiltrating the country through smuggling tunnels beneath Gaza's southern border with Egypt. The security sources said the number of Gazans who were still held in Egypt was not yet clear, but they estimated it to be less than 30.
