Franco-German trust "not broken" despite Libya differences

France and Germany stressed on Friday that differences over NATO's Libya operation were no threat to relations between their countries, DPA reported.

"We agree about the goal, there are differences about the path," said French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe, after talks with his German counterpart Guido Westerwelle. "But there have been differences before, it is no drama."

The ministers met in Berlin ahead of a NATO foreign ministers' meeting at which Libya was due to dominate the agenda.

France, along with Britain, is pushing for NATO to step up its military campaign in Libya, to act more aggressively against the regime of leader Moamer Gaddafi. But Germany insists that only a political solution can resolve the Libyan crisis.

"It would be wrong to interpret any disagreement or bad feeling into the German-French relationship," said Westerwelle.

"If Guido Westerwelle thought that Moamer Gaddafi should stay in power, only then would we have a problem," Juppe added.
