At least 15 people were injured in a car bomb attack targeting a church in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk, according to a police source, dpa reported.

The bomb went off outside the Holy Family church in Kirkuk, injuring 15 people, including the church's priest and people in neighbouring houses.

More than 40 homes in the area were damaged.

Iraqi Christians have been targeted in a string of attacks since October, when some 60 people died in a Baghdad church hostage-taking by a group affiliated to al-Qaeda.

Most of the victims were Christian worshippers, as well as some security personnel.
