Six people were killed Sunday when gunmen blew up tow houses in the Iraqi city of Hilla, 100 kilometres south of Baghdad, police said, DPA reported.

They added that the gunmen had blown up a house in the area of Alexandria and that the explosion caused heavy damage to a neighbouring house.

The blast also left 11 injured, two of them seriously, according to the police.

Violence in Iraq has slowed down significantly since its peak in 2006-2007, yet fears of instability persist.
