Arab league meeting starts in Cairo

Secretary General of the Arab League Nabil Al Arabi presides over the meeting of the foreign ministers of the member states of the League in Egypt's capital of Cairo, Al Jazeera broadcaster reported.

The meeting agenda includes discussion of the latest developments in the Arab countries, including the reform plans in Syria which were agreed during Al Arabi's meeting with Syrian President Al Asad in Damascus.

Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan is also expected to attend the meeting.

Since early 2011, the wave of popular unrests have covered a number of countries in the Middle East and North Africa, particularly Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain, Yemen and Libya. Popular uprisings have led to the downfall of the ruling regimes in Egypt and Tunisia. Currently, a fierce struggle between the authorities and armed rebels continues in Libya.
