Syrian soldiers on Thursday shot in the direction of a Lebanese army unit on patrol in the northern border town of Mouanse, the Lebanese state news agency reported.
"The soldiers shot in the direction of the Lebanese army from Syrian territory," the report said.
Residents in the area said the Syrian army thought that the Lebanese soldiers were either Syrian refugees or army defectors trying to flee into Lebanon, DPA reported.
Thousands of Syrians have fled to neighbouring Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey since the government crackdown on pro-democracy protesters started in mid-March
