A high-level meeting on Libya will be held next week in New York to assess the situation in the North African country, where the UN Security Council plans to deploy a support mission, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said Thursday.

The meeting will take place on Tuesday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session to be attended by scores of heads of state and government, DPA reported.

Ban said he expected the 15-nation Security Council to promptly agree to deploy the UN support mission to help the rebels' Transitional National Council.

Ban said his special envoy for post-conflict planning, Ian Martin, was visiting Libya to discuss elections, policing and transitional justice with council officials.
