The Palestinian Authority's application for UN membership was due to be discussed later Monday by the UN Security Council, DPA reported.
PA President Mahmoud Abbas applied for membership on Friday, but has said he also stands ready to resume negotiations to work out a settlement of the Palestinian conflict with Israel.
The council president, Lebanese Ambassador Nawaf Salam, had distributed the Palestinian application to all 15 council members.
Lebanon supports both Palestinian statehood and UN membership. Its presidency expires on Friday, when Nigeria takes over the monthly rotating presidency.
