After January revolution we are trying to create a new Egypt, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces of Egypt Mohamed Hussein Tantawi said on Thursday Al- Jazeera reported
"Our people had to sacrifice many victims to achieve their rights," Mohamed Hussein Tantawi underlined.
Supreme Council of Armed Forces, which is the main governing body of the country, came to power in February after 18 days of antigovernment demonstrations and riots and following resigning of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
The first judicial session on the former president, who ruled over Egypt for almost 30 years, was held in Cairo on Aug. 3. According to the prosecution, Mubarak wanted to suppress peaceful demonstrations in January-February 2011 by force.
The demonstrators' main demand was Mubarak's resignation. Then the riots killed 850 people injuring 6,000. Mubarak may face death penalty if charge of shooting demonstrators is proved.
