In the famous Gamet El-Dewal El-Arabia thoroughfare, a preferred destination for Arabs in Egypt and the venue of many celebrations in recent years, tens of Libyans played loud music and waved flags of the Libyan revolution in sheer ecstasy.

Egyptians were stopping by to congratulate the Libyans for their victory and the gathering caused few traffic problems.

Libyans also congregated in Tahrir Square, the epicentre of Egypt's January 25 Revolution, and rallied in front of the Arab League's headquarters.

Libya's ousted former president Gaddafi was killed in Sirte on Thursday by Libyan fighters, whom he had scorned as "rats" in the early days of the revolution.
