Prime Minister of the National Transitional Council (NTC) of Libya Mahmoud Jibril has officially announced about presence of chemical weapons, "heritage" of Muammar Gaddafi regime, in the country, Associated Press reports.

Jibril said international inspectors are supposed to arrive in Libya within a week to solve the fate of weapons, as the new authorities are not interested in its storage, RBK reported.

"I would like to assure the international community that the new Libya is a peaceful country that does not need such a weapon," he said. It should be added that henceforth international organizations will deal with the revealed weapons.

Earlier the UN Security Council was informed about the presence of chemical weapons in Libya by the organization's representative in Libya Ian Martin, who pointed to the possible presence of unofficial stores in the country.
