Syrian border guards arrested Wednesday Wael Abbas, a man believed to be behind the kidnapping of seven Estonian nationals last March in eastern Lebanon, a Lebanese security source told dpa.
Abbas was caught trying to enter the Syrian territories, the source said.
The seven Estonian cyclists were kidnapped in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley region in March, shortly after they entered Lebanon from Syria. They were freed on July 14.
On March 31, a previously unknown group calling itself Haraket Al-Nahda Wal-Islah (Movement of Renewal and Reform) claimed responsibility for the kidnapping in an email sent to the Lebanon Files news website.
