Jordanians call for political reforms, anti-corruption drive

Hundreds of Jordanians demonstrated Friday in Amman and other major cities urging the new government of Prime Minister Awn Khasawneh to adopt political reforms and fight against corruption, dpa reported.

In Amman, hundreds of activists, mainly from youth movements, demonstrated outside the Grand Husseini Mosque after Friday prayers to protest the detention of pro-reform activists.

The protests, held under the slogan "No Reform with the Security Fist," were also reported in the cities of Karak, Maan and Tafileh.

Khasawneh, a former judge at the International Court of Justice, replaced Marouf Bakhit who was sacked by King Abdullah II amid several months of pro-reform demonstrations.
