Egyptian authorities were investigating claims of "dubious financing" to some political parties contesting the November parliamentary elections, an official overseeing the polls said in remarks published Thursday dpa reported

"Over the last few days, monitoring agencies have exposed dubious financing offered to some groups for their election campaigns," the head of the independent Higher Electoral Commission, Abdel Moez Ibrahim, told the semi-official newspaper Al Ahram.

He did not name the alleged recipients of the funds or the purported financiers. Ibrahim said the findings would be made public after the investigations were completed.

More than 11,000 contenders are running for Egypt's 498-seat parliament in the three-round elections set to begin on November 28. Campaigning ends on November 26.

The elections will be the first in Egypt since a popular uprising toppled president Hosny Mubarak in February.
