Egypt has refused to grant a visa to right-wing Dutch lawmaker Raymond de Roon for accusing the country of practicing ethnic cleansing, Foreign Ministry spokesman Amr Roshdi said Thursday, dpa reported.
A delegation from the Dutch parliament's foreign affairs committee has cancelled a visit, scheduled for Friday, after Cairo refused to grant a visa to de Roon from the nationalist Freedom Party.
"In addition to the stances of the extremist, anti-Islam party to which this lawmaker belongs, his recent statements ... in which he claimed Egypt is practicing ethnic cleansing and is a dictatorship are racial incitement," the spokesman said.
The party's leader, Geert Wilders, reportedly condemned the visa refusal as a "scandal."
