Report: Suspected al-Qaeda leaders arrested in Yemen crackdown

Security forces in Yemen have arrested suspected al-Qaeda leaders in the southern city of Aden, according to a news website dpa reported

The forces raided two hotels on Tuesday following a tip-off that Muslim radicals with suspected links to al-Qaeda were staying there, according to Yemenat.

Hotel staff were reportedly also arrested for failing to examine the identity of the suspected radicals.

There was however no official confirmation on the number of people arrested in the crackdown.

Yemenat reported that the raid came after authorities had learned that al-Qaeda sympathizers had arrived in Aden from the restive province of Abyan to attack security and military targets.

Since May, the army has been conducting operations in Abyan against Muslim militants with suspected links to al-Qaeda
