Al-Assad vows to fight foreign intervention

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said he would not bow to pressure to halt a crackdown on protesters and vowed to "fight and die" in the event of foreign intervention, in remarks published Sunday, dpa reported.
"Military intervention will destabilize the region as a whole, and all countries will be affected," al-Assad told the London-based Sunday Times.
"If they are logical, rational and realistic, they shouldn't do it because the repercussions are very dire," he said.
His warning came as an Arab League ultimatum to stop the clampdown expired late Saturday.
