Egypt's military ruler, Hussein Tantawi, said Sunday that no additional privileges are envisaged for the army in the country's planned new constitution, DPA reported.

"The army's status will remain unchanged in the new constitution," state television quoted Tantawi as saying.

Tantawi also pledged that Monday's parliamentary elections would not be postponed and would be taking place amid "maximum security."

"The elections will be held on time and I call on the great people of Egypt to go to the polls," he said.
