An explosion occurred Sunday in a car park near the British embassy in the Bahraini capital Manama, the Interior Ministry said.

"The explosion took place inside a bus parked near the embassy in the area of Ras Rumman," the ministry added in a brief statement.

"It caused no casualties or heavy damage," said the ministry, DPA reported.

It did not say if the blast had targeted the British embassy.

The small Gulf kingdom was gripped earlier this year by pro-reform protests, which the government blamed on Iran.
