Saudi Arabian military aircraft crashes
A military aircraft from the Saudi Air Force crashed early Tuesday while performing daily drills, due to an unexplained defect, official Saudi television reported.
"The pilot was able to drop the aircraft in a population-free area before he used a parachute to jump from it," the broadcaster added, DPA reported.
Investigations are currently under way to determine the exact nature of the defect.
The plane fell in the northern region of Tabuk, which houses a military base about 1,100 kilometres north-east of the capital Riyadh, and 200 kilometres from Israel's southern Red Sea resort town of Eilat.
