Yemeni Prime Minister Mohammed Basindawa is to visit six Arabian Gulf countries later this week to seek financial support for his government, the local news website Shaharah Net reported Wednesday dpa reported

The tour, starting on Sunday, would take Basindawa to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain, where he would ask for help in overcoming a severe economic crisis caused by 11 months of political upheaval in Yemen, according to the report.

Basindawa, an former opposition leader, became prime minister last month after forming an interim government, shared by the opposition and supporters of outgoing President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

The government was created under a Gulf-brokered power transfer deal, which grants Saleh immunity from prosecution in return for his relinquishing power.
