US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Monday vowed to use all diplomatic measures at her disposal to convince Russia and China to change their position on Syria, dpa reported.
She said they had made a wrong decision in supporting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who has violently suppressed the 11-month-old protest movement in the Middle Eastern country.
Clinton was speaking on the sidelines of the gathering of foreign ministers from the G20 group of leading economic countries.
Clinton said a gathering next weekend in Tunisia, starting Friday, of the Friends of Syria group would show that the al-Assad regime is increasingly isolated within Middle East and the rest of the world.
Earlier ethis month, Russia and Syria used their veto in the United Nations Security Council to block a resolution sponsored by the Arab League that called for al-Assad to step down and allow a peaceful transfer of power. More than 6,000 people have been killed during the 11-months of protests.
