Palestinians say no peace talks unless Israel freezes settlements

Palestinian officials on Wednesday told Jordan's foreign minister that they would not resume peace talks with Israel unless it stopped settlement activities, DPA reported.

Jordan, which hosted Israeli-Palestinian exploratory talks in January, is seeking to get to revive the long-stalled peace negotiations.

"We always say that Israel must stop settlements, including in Jerusalem, and accept the two-state solution on the 1967 borders to resume negotiations," Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat told visiting Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh.

Israel has rejected Palestinian demands to freeze settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem and says it wants to hold peace talks without conditions.

"We discussed chances to revive peace talks," Judeh told reporters in Ramallah. "We will contact everyone in the region and outside it and in capitals of influence and places of decision making to set up the proper conditions and incentives to resume negotiations," said Judeh, who was recently in Washington and Moscow.
