The Syrian parliament asked President Bashar al-Assad Monday to delay the parliamentary elections due to be held on May 5, 2012, the state-run news agency reported.
"The assembly asked the President of the Republic to consider delaying the elections so that the comprehensive reforms are consolidated," dpa quoted state-run SANA as saying.
Al-Assad endorsed a new constitution on February 28 which called for the introduction of a free registration of all political parties, and the limit of the president's to two terms of seven years each.
