A first group of an advance team of UN monitors was en route to Damascus and was set to arrive Sunday night, the spokesman of international envoy Kofi Annan said, dpa reported.
Starting Monday, the six-person group "will deploy to centres where there has been conflict," after consulting with Syrian authorities, spokesman Ahmad Fawzi told dpa.
The rest of the advance team, which is to number 25 to 30 people, would follow "as soon as possible," he said.
