The Syrian government said Thursday it had accepted the appointment of Lakhdar Brahimi as the new United Nations envoy, and hoped he would clear the way for "national dialogue" to end the conflict, dpa reported.
"We have informed the UN that we accept the appointment of Mr Brahimi," Faisal Mokdad, the deputy foreign minister, told reporters in Damascus.
"Syria will win, thanks to its people, its leader and its government," he said.
