Syrian opposition group to discuss political settlement with Russia
A visiting Syrian opposition delegation is expected to discuss the start of a political dialogue in the conflict-ridden country with Russia here on Tuesday, Xinhua reported.
The delegation, headed by leader of the Coalition Forces for Peaceful Change in Syria, Fathi Jamous, will meet with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, local media reported.
Main topics for discussion would include the immediate start of the intra-Syria political negotiations, which aimed at implementing a peaceful settlement for the prolonged crisis, local media reported.
During his meeting with Syrian Ambassador to Moscow Riyad Haddad here on Monday, Bogdanov, also the Russian presidential representative for the Middle East, called for the launch of a political settlement in Syria.
The two sides "exchanged views on prospects for a political settlement in Syria through a broad national dialogue in line with the Kofi Annan plan and the Geneva agreements reached by the Action Group on Syria," said the ministry.
Also on Monday, the Russian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the allegedly threat by an armed Syrian opposition on attacking civilian airports in Syria, saying such actions were no different from terrorism.
