FM: Russia upset over initiative for truce in Syria
Russia is upset that the initiative of UN and the Arab League special envoy Lakhdar Brahimi for a truce in Syria was not heard by the parties, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday, RIA Novosti reported.
"Of course, we are very upset that the truce initiative of Mr. Brahimi, and we have actively supported this initiative, still not been heard," Lavrov said.
Two weeks ago, Brahimi called on the both sides of the the Syrian conflict to cease fire at the celebration of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha (Kurban Bairam). He expressed the view that a temporary truce would help to resolve the crisis by political means.
