Syrian troops are battling insurgents and mercenaries on the border with Turkey and Iraq, the Voice of Russia reported.

On Sunday the Syrian Air Force launched air strikes against armed insurgents along the border areas of Turkey and Iraq.

There are high concentrations of armed insurgents and mercenaries along border areas. It is from Turkish territory armed rebels of the so-called "Free Syrian Army" launch attacks into Syria.

Syrian regular army troops are holding their defensive positions and reinforcements are on the way from Damascus.

In the last 24 hours more than 46 mercenaries have been killed.

In the province of Idlib the Syrian military carried out an operation to clear transport corridors and free the road for traffic on the Damascus-Aleppo highway. Located near the area is the town Maarat-Naaman which was seized by insurgent forces two months ago.

According to news agencies a decisive assault will begin within the next 48 hours.

In Aleppo, the economic capital of Syria, street fighting continues unabated. Army units and militiamen have successfully fought back insurgents who attempted to take control of the city center.

Meanwhile, "Al-Jazeera" aired a video apparently made by the so-called "War Council in Damascus" with a message to foreign embassies, private companies and citizens, to immediately leave the capital. Otherwise, they will be considered "as accomplices of the regime", according to the insurgents.
