IRI Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said Sunday that Cairo was by no means involved in organizing an anti-Iran meeting held in the Egyptian capital, IRNA reported.

He stressed that Tehran has conveyed its protest to the government of Egypt over the anti-Iran meeting held while he was in Cairo.

"The meeting was organized by certain Persian Gulf littoral states to overshadow my visit to Egypt but they failed to achieve their objective", Salehi said.

He noted that the Iranian delegation was not informed of the event before arrival in Cairo.

The Iranian foreign minister arrived in the Egyptian capital on January 9 on the fourth leg of his African tour which had already taken him to Burkina Faso, Ghana and Benin.

During his meeting with Egypt's President Mohamed Morsi on January 10, Salehi extended President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's invitation to him to visit Tehran.

Salehi also rejected reports claiming that representatives of the Egyptian president and the Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar were present in the anti-Iran meeting.
